For over forty years James has been sculpting with wax and developing his wax sculpting techniques.
Over this time he has sculpted with plasticine clay, water based clay, hybrid clays, and a wide variety of waxes. Through trial and error James has developed the wax formula we will be using. This formula has changed over the years depending on the materials available, he believes this current wax blend to be the best.
In this two-session workshop you will learn the methods and benefits of using wax as part of your sculptural process.
Class times: 10:30am-1:30pm Saturday March 21 and Sunday March 22, with optional work time after class.
Fee: $300
Materials: $50, paid to the instructor at the first class. Includes the wax and armature for the hand model we will be sculpting.
Learn how to make James' wax formula, mix the wax, and start sculpting:
Session two will be devoted to sculpting , refining and finish techniques on the hand we started in session one. Through this process you will gain an understanding and the value of sculpting with wax, whether it is a part of your sculpture or the whole thing.
If you have some of these, you can bring your own, but we will have extras to use during class.
